Most homes we are invited to have builder grade kitchens or ready to assemble kitchen cabinets. While these are functional, and people get used to them, they just aren't all that a kitchen could be. If you are wondering how you could change things up a bit, here are 5 things you can do to refresh a boring kitchen.
Standard sized upper cabinets leave dead space, unusable space at the top of the cabinets. Installing cabinets all the way to the ceiling makes the kitchen seem much larger, plus it gives additional storage space for seasonally used items.
Our original kitchen did not have a pantry space. Most of the deep storage was located below the counter top, not easily accessible for cooking. Most of the extra groceries and supplies were kept in the garage, which required extra trips while cooking. Having added the pantry cabinet allowed for quick and easy access to all and overstock supplies. Pantry cabinets also help eliminate clutter from the counter tops and help your kitchen stay clean and fun looking.
A tile back splash protects the walls from grease and water stains, but it doesn't have to be boring. This is a great way to play with color and give your kitchen some character.
Kitchens are the new hang out space. Whether you have a quick snack, check on homework, or work on DIY projects, it is very nice to have a large work area. For our project we have also added some under cabinet space for storing napkins, table cloths, decorations, etc.
Shop around for some new appliances. Newer models come in different colors and finishes, plus they are more energy efficient than older appliances.
